Hi,
I used RCW on huge projects. One contains more than 650 files, 60000 strings, 9 target languages. And it become very difficult to work with it: When I try to open it, I often get an error message "RCWintrans9.exe has stopped working" RCW takes 1h30 to open the "Target files" dialog and I cannot "write all" as the used memory grows up until the crash (1.1 Gb)
Is there a way to optimze MDBs when we work on projects for a long time, and when they are now huge? Splitting the project will not be an option as we lose too many benefits.
Thank you
JM
Configuration: RCW 9.4.0.71, Windows 8.1 64-bit, 8Gb Ram ; Projects saved on local drives.

Hallo JM,
have you enabled to display more then one target language?
Open the "Languages" dialog and set only ONE target language (source + one target lang) to be visible. Uncheck all languages except the one you want to edit at a time.

Hi, No, I never used the possibility to display more than one target language. But I think the error come from the fact that RCW has some issues to handle project with 60000 strings. JM

Hello JM, > Is there a way to optimze MDBs when we work on projects for a long time, and when they are now huge? > This are problems comming with an increasing number of items (resource files) and with an increasing number of target languages.
> Splitting the project will not be an option as we lose too many benefits. > I understand but you will need to split the project.
You can use the "Export Translation Project" to make a copy of the project with less source file and/or less target languages.
Try: Export a project with all files but with only one target language. Check if you can work with the 60000 string project. Then you could try it with a project with more then one target language. ...or to reduce the files.
If you want you can send us your database file (.fsmdb) (to support@schaudin.com) and we will check what would be best.

Hi, Thank you for the answer. Splitting by language is very frustating as we have severals tasks to perform globally (ie exclude strings). And the QA cross languages is very usefull. Splitting the file set is also a issue to maintain consistency, terminology. To illustrate the issue I got in the excel export, I used your process (Export Translation Process) to show you the shift on only 1 file. The generated project file contains only 1 small properties, but its size is about 212 Mb! (I sent it to you by email)
I think we should be able to compact and optimize (as we can do it in Access) the DB
Regards,
JMV
